Sense of Modesty
December 3, 2007
How many times I have experienced running into people with no sense of modesty. It seems as if we don’t even know what is the meaning of it? We claim that we are extremely pious; we read the Holy book everyday, but how many of us have actually sat down and understood it?
The other day I and a few friends were talking about a colleague, his social sense and ego. This guy has said many famous lines, which one finds it hard to restrain from its enjoyment. During the first year of university the guy comes up and introduces himself and all of a sudden says if we haven’t understood his name correctly then we should consult the student list and that his name is right on the top.
This seems to be pretty ok. The guy must have worked really hard to get there but the next incident is hard to miss out. When he was working in company, he was told to speak and express himself on any topic. Philosophy, was chosen and the first words uttered were “there is a very famous quote by myself: always busy = very good and never time = excellent”. Who has ever mentioned that his quote is very famous at the age of 22. He is fucking 3 or what?
Similarly there have been many incidents when the other person after being contacted thinks himself to be flying high up in the sky, not willing to admit his mistakes and just wanting to run down the other person in order to show his greatness. Once again I was at boat basin waiting for my dinner. We over heard this bunch of guys sitting right next to us. There was this hefty guy sitting with 3 slightly built boys. He seemed to be their senior and the way the guy was praising himself was like an ignorant fool. This guy was trying to show off just because he had the guts to misbehave with his teachers.
I am sure we all come across such naïve people, but they all claim to have read the holy book and yet indulge in an activity which is not preferred. I have mentioned the reading the Quran why? becauase we all blame islam and insist that we are the way we are because of it. Why is this concept of just reading without understanding in our society? And this not only implies to our Holy book, but also it is sad to say our SSC and HSC education systems as well. To be a victim is one thing but promoting such an act unendurable.
Naive for sure…nobody is really remembered for such stuff…in fact considering your example of the hefty senior guy boasting about his misbehavior…I can bet none of the listeners were REALLY impressed….such people just feel content by getting it across…nobody is really listening…in fact they also know that also….
the truth of the matter is…we are so ahead in the wrong direction now…that it looks like an impossible task to come closer to the teachings of the Holy Quran…but just like it started somewhere towards the wrong path….it has to start somewhere towards the correct direction as well….one step at a time….and just as it got easier to sin with every next step…it will get easier to do good deeds in accordance with the Holy Book…with every next step….Inshallah!!!
